Only other time in my 37 years that I can remember sports being cancelled on a wide scale in the US like this due to an emergency was 9/11.
The NBA season has been suspended, and NCAA Championship Week has been canceled with nearly all conferences making the decision to cancel their conference tournaments. The NCAA tournament announced that games will be played without fans!
To some, including me, Covid-19 hasn’t been taken as seriously as it should be up until this point. People making jokes and memes, despite the fact that there are countries on lock down including Italy which reported hundreds of deaths since Tuesday, and school districts in Washington state that are closing.
Sports have always been an indicator of the severity of global or national emergencies, and based on the actions of sports leagues in the states. I am not scared, but I am starting to really worry about Covid-19.
