Black people, we are driving ourselves crazy trying to reform White people and White institutions. We are so oppressed, we don’t notice that we would rather ask inherently racist institutions to change their policies, rather than building our own institutions. Somehow, we cant see how backwards that is.
Why do we care so much about getting White people to acknowledge that our lives matter? Even if it is possible to convince them, do we think that society would magically change in our favor?
As you can see, companies are proudly displaying Black Lives Matter insignia, and there are African-Americans that are actually applauding these actions. Polls show that nearly 2/3rds of Americans support protests against police brutality. This leads me to believe that companies supporting Black Lives Matter protests see an opportunity to make money and keep a portion of their consumers satisfied.
We have a better chance of convincing ourselves that autonomy is the key to sanity. While there are a lot of moving parts to achieve true autonomy, we should spend our time striving for financial independence and unity within the African-American community. Building up the youth, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Our own mental health and education should be emphasized, rather than focusing our energy on reforming White people and the inherently racist institutions they have created and maintained for hundreds of years.
There are too many issues that we can and need to fix within the African-American community! Lets stop acting like house niggas, get in the field, dismantle our current situation in order to build our ideal reality.
