While I enjoy acknowledgment and I strive to be the very best educator that I can be. I wanted people to read these words in the article above and get upset. I know that a lot of what I said did not fit the overall theme of the article, and what is written is real but a little sugar-coated. That is not a knock against writer Jamie Swenson, with who I had some very positive conversations. This is an article highlighting the fact that UW helped put me in a position to fight inequity that our Black and Brown students experience. For that I will be forever grateful.
I need people to understand that there is a severe problem in our schools, impacting families and children negatively. This a political issue, and this is an academic issue. This is an issue that should have the community up in arms. Please do not send any good job messages. I appreciate it, but I need what I can do to help messages. I need resources, lawyers and mental health professionals. I want to create a better system.
