Wow, this new Kendrick Lamar album, Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers reminds me of a Stevie Wonder album.
Just amazing, Songs in the Keys of Life comes to mind. One song on Oklama’s new album is “We Cry Together,” When I listen to it, I hear Stevie Wonder’s song on Songs of the Keys of Life, “Ordinary Pain.” Both pieces give both perspectives of a toxic relationship, man and woman, but Kendricks’s version takes the two views way further, which is understandably so considering the dynamics of relationships have changed, and in some ways, you can hear the fact that they are the same over the last 46 years in between the two songs.
