Guns! Get rid of the guns! We always find a scapegoat.

Let’s not talk about our culture, which encourages hate, division and exclusion, lack of dialogue, and violence.

We are trying to put a bandaid on wounds that require surgery.

Our society has created the neighborhood shooter, the school shooter, and the police shooter, and we aren’t willing to accept that. We have to hold ourselves accountable and understand guns are not the biggest issue. Our biggest issues is that we are unwilling to deconstruct our culture and communicate to understand what will help us find the solutions that will prevent mass shootings.

Some people use other countries’ gun laws as examples, but you cant use examples of gun laws without also comparing the cultures of other countries as well. What may work for Japan may not necessarily work for the US.

I recently replied to a status on Facebook demanding that we create strcit gun laws, and I simply asked, what is that going to do? One person responded, “reducing the number of bullets a magazine can hold will make it harder to kill many people.” While reducing the number of people who die is definitely essential, we should also figure out why people are doing these things, create some solutions and eventually prevent these mass shootings from happening at such a high frequency.
