Are we taking STEM training far enough in the Black community?

The emphasis on STEM in the Black community is at an all-time high. You have community programs and school districts implementing workshops and classes for children to build their STEM skills. That is amazing, and we need to continue to do that. One thing I have yet to notice as much is the added component of encouraging young students to build their businesses.

So we are training students to work at places like Amazon and Google rather than teaching students to find solutions for needs and issues in the community that requires STEM.

I’m not saying that no one is doing this, but it should be the emphasis for several reasons, but one that keeps coming to my attention takes precedence for me. Tech companies are laying employees off at alarming rates. Are we having conversations with these students about this? We should not discourage, but again, there is an opportunity to create within and for the community.

Why not teach students tech skills and business skills at the same time? So that when they complete training, they’re in a position to start their businesses.
