That doesnt seem right

Is it me, or is it weird that the importance of a degree has declined around the same time women started outnumbering men on college campuses in record numbers? We know that has been the case since 1980, but not to the same extent as today. As of spring 2021, women made up 59.5 percent of all U.S. college students, a record high.

I recently read this, “Skills-based hiring is on the rise, and 59% of employers are considering eliminating college degree requirements — changes that could reshape the IT workforce”

While I see this as a potential positive for students from diverse underserved backgrounds, I feel like this is unfair to women. “Women hold 44% of STEM-related bachelor’s degrees as of 2022,” so in this industry, the number of women in STEM-related bachelor’s programs is far below the number representing all fields. Maybe it’s nothing, but in this country, it’s not far-fetched to think that as society shifts more in favor of women, male-dominated industries would also shift to maintain control and influence over who enters their industry.

Just a thought, and if there is any connection, what do we do to find a solution to this passive-aggressive discrimination?
