Reimbursement-only grants force community organizations to front public service costs for 45 to 120 days, shifting risk downward and filtering out the groups closest to the work. This is a structural equity failure, not an administrative hiccup. Here’s what better funding looks like, and what policymakers can do now.

Economic Empowerment for the Black Community: Lessons from H Mart and Uwajimaya
The Black community can gain economic empowerment by building grocery chains similar to H Mart and Uwajimaya, which have successfully combined business with cultural preservation. Drawing on Dr. Amos Wilson’s ideas from Blueprint for Black Power, we must take control of industries that serve our communities and keep wealth circulating within them. This could lead to greater economic independence, job creation, and a renewed sense of community for Black Americans.
Breaking the Chains of Outdated Invoicing: A Call to Action for Small Business Equity
The current invoicing system is simply not designed to support small businesses like mine. The practice of paying small businesses, especially minority-owned businesses, a month or more after the work has been completed is unjust and unfair. This outdated system causes immense harm to small business owners and their day-to-day operations and needs to be changed.
If it was just a job, say that!
I have no doubt that the lack of resources created enormous obstacles that he will not have to deal with during his time in Colorado, but Prime was more powerful at JSU than he will be at Colorado in the eyes of the NCAA. Sure, he will flip recruits, revive the Pac-10 and win, but his impact at JSU was much more critical to the Black community and College Football. While he was at Jackson State, he was on the verge of changing the landscape of college sports and, to a lesser degree, professional Football as well! How long, I don't know. Not my place to say. In a lot of ways, I am being selfish. The impact of desegregation on all industries, including Education and Sports, is fully evident, as Black Players, who make up the large majority in Football and Basketball, would rather play in leagues owned almost exclusively by white men.
Basketball is gradually turning into baseball
Still, no one addressed that he is saying you don't have to look in the United States for players anymore. Of course, most players are still African-American, but who knows what that will look like in another 50 years. Look at draft picks over the last 20 years, search where the NBA invests in scouting, and follow the money.
Think about how many industries Black people were prevalent in at one point, and remember what happened when those jobs started being outsourced overseas.
Thoughts Processed: Why do we love Michael Jordan so much?
I recently got a new pair of Jordan's, and I was extremely happy! I started to think about how this guy hasn't played in 18 years. Why do I still get excited about his shoes? I was on Facebook, and one of the groups that I am in was talking about Jordan. Someone compared him to Lebron and a member of the group made a video. He was pissed, I am 37, he was older than me. Hella mad that someone would even bring Jordan up in a discussion about Lebron James. He felt that there was no argument to be made. Just some thoughts on why we like MJ the way we do.
Can Black NBA players start their own league?
Black NBA players are indispensable, Nike has shown support for Kaepernick, despite the company’s partnership with the NFL. Nikes support has helped to reinforce the idea that in today’s market, Black protest and social change can be big business. Black entrepreneurship with an emphasis on Black autonomy and social media creating new platforms to air sports games have created the avenues necessary for Black athletes to corner the market and start their own leagues.
The Complexity of being a Great Basketball player and an even Greater Businessman.
"LeBron, in addition to a lot of other talents, he has a money mind..." - Warren Buffet Lebron James is arguably the most powerful athlete in American sports. You could make an argument that Lebron James is a better businessman than basketball player, bringing in $50 million dollars in endorsements, on top of his average … Continue reading The Complexity of being a Great Basketball player and an even Greater Businessman.
