How can we involve our youth in projects that we are currently working on? School is starting online this year, and instead of getting upset about it, I decided to incorporate outside projects that I am working on into my curriculum.

The idea is that I take my students interests and passions and mesh them with mine. Their education will be outside the classroom, which means we have to start thinking outside the box that much more. Are their ways for students to gain experience in fields that they may not be exposed to during a normal school year? I think so, and covid has provided the opportunity for adults to create programs and curriculum that are tied to businesses, ideas, entrepreneurs and opportunities for these students.

I am not sure which approach would be better, an apprenticeship or internship, but there are Black businesses, Black web developers, Black Entrepreneurs that could take students and teach them how to operate a business, help them start their own business, organize contests where prizes include funding and partnership for the best ideas, or how to build web programs and also offer employment at some point.

We are at a point where presenting possibilities is not enough. We have to begin to create avenues we want to see our children go into!

    1. That is what its about. At this point, we can either complain about a lack of opportunities and tell these kids to do all these things only to be left empty handed. Or we can create the opportunities and lead the kids into those fields knowing that they will have opportunity created by people that look like you and I.
